Washington DC is ranked number one! And Bethesda and Richmond are in the top 15....wow. Good to know.
becoming an anthropologist: leaving traces
I initially noticed this post for the attached picture, but the entry itself says quite a bit as well.
As a full-time worker and two credits shy of a full-time student, I find very little time for actual physical interaction with new people, friends and acquaintances. I find that online messaging and social networking systems keep me in touch with not only the friends I've left behind in Korea but also those who are around me now; more than actual physical meetings do, in fact.
You know that you've reached a milestone in ubiquity when you
use two of these tools to communicate with your boss--whether he's on the other side of the world or on the other side of the wall in his office!
Is it an acceptable alternative? What is lost and what is gained? What more is left for internet-enabled interaction?
Why is this even still an issue? Would it really be that hard to give a paying customer a receipt with a code to enter for two hours of free internet? We have it for the car wash. Geez. I should just invent it and make a mint.

Kim Go Eun, better known as Byul (the Korean word for 'star'), recently released her third album, 눈물샘.
I didn't initially know it as 눈물샘, because someone gave the album to me digitally and the korean got corrupted. When I went to YesAsia to find the album title, they said the title was "Lachrymal Glands."
A quick look to google explained what lachrymal glands are.....and a quick use of its language tool translated 눈물샘 somewhat more accurately as "a tear spring." As realization set in, so did the humor.
Now that I'm thinking about it, though, I'm not sure how that could be aptly translated in English. The source of my tears? Tear wells? Tear ducts have no real marketability, and lachrymal glands sounds like medical research more than it does a ballad album.
For those of you who are still interested in my project of yore, the Korea Pop Podcast Show, the most recent weekly-which-is-more-like-monthly episode is 100% ROCK.
Which, of course, may not be your thing....If so, you're welcome to hit the preceeding ballad episode or the hip hop one before that. Check it out!
