My name is Bryan Collick, and most of my online presence revolves around the moniker leftsider. The nickname refers to the fact that I'm left-handed, not my political affiliation or any of the other reasons I've dispelled over the years. I'm a lefty, so I do things on the left side. Hence, leftsider.

When I first created "The Left Side" in 1998 it was a Tripod webpage, where I tested out the
things I learned about HTML and javascript from the legendary Webmonkey tutorials. In 2002, when a Blogger site I co-authored was fading, I took the blogging medium to my personal page and Leftsider began its current form. I spent a long time with Greymatter, eventually changing to Movable Type, which I develop with extensively today.

What you'll find

Leftsider has gone from personal musings to internet interests, spending a hefty amount of time reflecting on things Korean (during the period I lived there) and, more recently, mind-expanding. You'll still see a lot of those things around, as I enjoy seeing where culture and history merge with technology and innovation. As it stands, I think that technology is a pretty serious culture eraser which, left unchecked, will turn our world into a very bland, boring, and culturally blank page. However, I think that, by paying attention to user experience and need, we can adjust it in such a way that technology could sustain our culture rather than devalue it. I'll talk about that a lot; you can count on it.

Unlike my professional blog, where I will present things simply and in ways that are easy to understand, on leftsider I'll focus on ideas and theories and where I think these things will go. If it gets too deep, just let me know and I'll gladly expand.
